Why is that you might ask? Because this will be a first-time experience in Wine Explorers’ 10-year history!

 

We'll experience the Olive Harvest Festival for the first time!

Below are the details.

 

We will visit Olivos de las Ánimas, an olive mill and grove located in the department of Maldonado, in the rural area of Pan de Azúcar (100 km from Montevideo), at the foot of the Cerro de las Ánimas.

 

The surrounding hills, olive trees, and diverse ecosystems provide a unique and stunning landscape, perfect for an incredible countryside experience.

 

We will take part in the olive harvest, produce our own olive oil, and then enjoy a countryside lunch paired with wines from the Las Garzas Winery.

 

About Bodega Las Garzas

Bodega Las Garzas is located just a few kilometers from José Ignacio and five kilometers from the Atlantic Ocean, nestled between the stunning Garzón and Rocha lagoons.

It is owned by a couple from Punta del Este who are passionate about wine. Therefore this pushed them to pursue their dream of crafting wines that capture the essence of the place they love.

 

In their 4-hectare vineyard you can find Pinot Noir, Merlot, Petit Verdot, and Tannat, producing six different wines that we will enjoy during our lunch, presented by sommelier Gastón Figún.

Welcome at the Olive Mill

Guided tour of the olive grove with Martín Robaina

Manual olive harvesting using rakes

Transport of the harvested olives to the mill 

Guided visit of the mill to learn about the production process

Overview of sustainable waste management of the facility

Transfer to the country house on tractor-pulled carts for lunch

Lunch with wines from Bodega Las Garzas (in Olivos de las Ánimas)

Departure Time: 9 AM (sharp)

Reception

Premium cheese and charcuterie board, tasting of freshly made extra virgin olive oils, focaccia, and olives.

 

Starter

Chorizo, sweetbreads, and pork flank steak.

 

Main Course

Rump steak, traditional barbeque, and grilled vegetables.

Fresh salad bar with homemade mayo and sweet & sour sauce.

Flavored water with lemon and rosemary

 

Dessert

Homemade flan with dulce de leche.
